Get to Know the New Look of Venture Out

RANGE partnered with Outdoor Retailer on a total rebrand for Venture Out including a new logo, color palette, tagline and redesign of their signature turnkey booths. Since we also designed The RANGER Station, they asked us to come up with a fresh and forward concept relevant to the Modern Outdoor Movement. The RANGER Station is the educational and creative hub of Venture Out and the proverbial campfire our community gathers around. It’s been part of Venture Out since its inception so the turnkey booths surrounding it needed to live in harmony with the existing look and feel of the materials we already had in play.

The turnkey booths had to be modular and easily built with a low-impact footprint. They also had to be sustainable, meaning they needed to be fabricated with renewable, eco-friendly materials that had an endless life-cycle. We needed them to be democratic, inviting, accessible and engaging spaces that felt unique but also neutral so brands could tell their own personal stories. And last but not least, we needed the turnkey booths to be durable, so we could reuse them twice a year at both the Snow Show and Summer Market.

We decided to go with a direction we called “Mixed Commodity” by combining raw materials like welded mesh metal with warmer materials like Doug Fir Plywood. These materials are clean and modern, cost-effective, and truly sustainable unlike more exotic materials that can’t always be recycled or reused past their first life cycle. We opted for PALBOARD for printed graphics and a stadium seating approach to The RANGER Station seating, using stacked volumes to create a more intimate experience. Once we had the green light from the OR team, we forwarded on our renderings the talented team at Greenspace and they took over from there.

For the logo, we wanted to keep everything super minimal without too many design bells and whistles, something that felt almost like a glyph. We landed on a mark that represented adventure and discovery because Venture Out exhibitors are on a mission to push the boundaries of product and design, and move the needle in the retail, marketing, or e-commerce space.
