Pencil + Paper: RANGE Magazine x Lizzy Janssen

Tags: , , ,

We crafted the recent issue of RANGE MAGAZINE to represent a playful intersection of CREATIVITY AND THE OUTDOORS. With the gracious help of some talented artists, illustrators, designers and photographers we were able to enhance our original editorial content and bring life to the trends and products we love. Lizzy Janssen, our friend, BRILLIANT ILLUSTRATOR and Free People’s Art Director, created some cute doodles for RANGE Magazine’s recent “Outdoor Trendz” article. She describes the illustrations as “fun, happy and low key… representative of outdoor life.” Lizzy says she joined our team as a contributor with the intention of inspiring people to GET BACK TO NATURE and to be more active in the open air, a concept we are committed to supporting as a group of outdoor enthusiasts.

Lizzy began drawing as a kid, but felt frustrated when her technique did not match that of her sister’s. Crooked lines and funky materials led her to the world of collage and illustration because she could create STRANGE OR MESSY FIGURES that others would find to be INTRIGUING. She then studied graphic design at RISD and found that she could incorporate these imaginative practices into her design work digitally.

Today, Lizzy draws inspiration from nature, using florals, shades of green, and ORGANIC TEXTURES. While she says that she often develops ideas by browsing Pinterest and Etsy, we think her own Pinterest page is absolutely enchanting. Also, Lizzy’s current role at Free People allows her to work with a team of designers to create their creative website, catalog and marketing. More recently, she’s been working on their activewear collection, which we happen to have a huge girl crush on, FP Movement.
