This past weekend was the first in a series of summer gatherings from the technical/lifestyle apparel brand Coldsmoke. Hosted at its headquarters in Venice Beach, the bright, multi-level space welcomed fans of the brand, friends and anyone with a hunger for adventure.
Vintage ski equipment, worn backpacks and mountaineering goggles aptly set the backdrop for a brand rooted in exploration and inspired by classic military and workwear goods. It was a treat to flip through pieces from the F/W 2013 collection that as promised, were highly functional and equally fashionable. Goose-down jackets, three-layer waterproof and breathable guide jackets, as well as textured Melton wool button-downs were among my favorites.
A photo exhibit from Kana Manglapus Projects featured works from artists like Maximillian Chow, Adam Secore and Kassia Meador. In the corner of the room biscuits were being warmed under a heatlamp as Free Range LA prepared a feast of coleslaw, chicken drumsticks, jalepeno coleslaw and a watermelon, cucumber salad. A spiral staircase lead to a sun drenched rooftop equipped with solar-powered lights, music coming from speakers disguised as rocks and a view of the palm tree lined beach, yet, I still couldn’t help but feel a little excited for snow season.
